James Flack

James H. Flack painted from a young age growing up in County Armagh. As a boy, he received constant encouragement from his mother, who was headmistress of an Armagh primary school and stressed art throughout the school curriculum. At 10, young James Flack was one of the youngsters whose paintings were chosen for display in a children's art exhibit that was a feature of the 1951 Festival of Britain.

Flack initially trained for a career in the Presbyterian ministry, though his love of paintings never diminished. He held the degrees of BA, BD, M.Th., and H.Dip.Ed. from Trinity College Dublin and Edinburgh University.

He devoted himself full-time to painting and teaching art in Athy, County Kildare where he lived with his wife and son. His heavy teaching schedule included watercolour instruction at summer schools, and to art groups and individual students throughout Ireland and Wales.

Flack exhibited regularly at galleries and in one-man shows in Ireland, Britain, Canada and the United States. His paintings have been purchased by libraries, museums, business concerns and private collectors in Ireland, Britain, Continental Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia and Africa.

James Flack died in 2018.
