Kingwell, Alan
Plymouth born Alan Kingwell is a self-taught artist specialising in land and seascapes in oils. He has been painting professionally since 1985. Prior to this, his work for the Forestry Commission enabled him to experience the moors and woodlands of the West Country in all their many different moods. Since then, Kingwell has worked to capture the atmosphere and feelings of these scenes.
Living in the South West of England, Kingwell is surrounded by inspiration for his paintings - from the beauty of Dartmoor to the rugged coastline. He produces work in many sizes - from miniatures to works of 6 feet long. His dramatic seascapes depict the Devon and Cornish coasts in all weathers, and his moorlands and winter scenes reflect his love for natural surroundings and wildlife.
Over the past few years Kingwell has hosted regular oil painting workshops teaching people of all abilities sharing the techniques that he has developed. In 2004 one of his pieces was shortlisted for Daily Mail's 'Not The Turner Prize'.
