Batlle, Michel
Michel Batlle is a painter and sculptor, born in Toulouse in 1946. A major French artist of Catalan extraction, his early work was inspired by the Ecole de Paris and American abstract painting. In 1966 he created a new concept that connects art to the body in "a relationship between the body and spirit that is translated through graphic means", which he called: psychophysiographie.
In 1965 he was the founded “Cratère”, a place of musical, poetic and artistic avant-garde experiments in Toulouse, and since 2010 he has turn to creating large metal sculptures. These works represent opposition and a tension beteween the civilised and the savage.
Batlle has exhibited throughout Europe and further afield. His work can be found in public and private collections including the Musée des Augustins in Toulouse, the FRAC Midi-Pyrénées and the FNAC
Batlle continues to live and work in France.
