Mike Bernard was a contemporary painter, born in Liverpool in 1946. He studied at Liverpool College of Art with further studies at Liverpool University and Laird College of Art. He taught for some time and then settled in Co. Mayo where he lived and worked. Bernard was well known for his evocative and naturalistic landscapes and interiors, which have been described as having a 'magical intensity'. His work is mainly an exploration of the landscapes he encountered over a long period. His paintings are an invitation to explore the atmosphere of these places; and perhaps you will find your own experiences within them.
